Mary (Morra) Nunno, 98, died February 9, 2017 at the Finger Lakes Center for Living in Auburn, New York.  She was married for sixty years to Pasquale Nunno, who died in 2003.  She is survived by a daughter Phyllis Marie (Richard) Smith of Silver Spring, MD and Webster, NY and a son Michael (Patricia) Nunno of Auburn, New York, as well as, grandsons, Jeffrey and Jeremy Nunno, and Steven (Kirstyn) Smith and step grandchildren, Sean (Priscilla) Sinon and Brianna (Sam) Sinon Rowley.

Mary was born in Herkimer NY on September 19, 1918.  She moved to Gloversville, NY in the late 1930’s with her parents and sisters and then raised her family with Pasquale there.  She had a long career as a shipping supervisor at Grandoe, Inc., then one of the largest glove manufacturers in the world.  She was a dedicated member of the Lady of Mt. Carmel Church community who planned, organized, and worked at their social and charity functions.  Mary was known for her gifts of crocheted baby blankets, hats and scarves for our family’s newborns, and for countless unknown children kept warm by her lovingly made masterpieces.  She mailed colorful Adirondack fall leaves to grandchildren, grand nieces, and nephews so they wouldn’t forget home.  Her generosity, simple elegance, impeccable taste in jewelry, emphasis on an education (especially for the girls in the family), and her compassion and devotion to the Blessed Mother Mary will be deeply treasured memories. She told stories of WWI veterans, life during the Great Depression, the sacrifices of men and women during WWII, raising her children, and her life with her husband, parents and sisters.  She wanted her great grandchildren, Lillian Nunno, Oliver and Henry Smith to remember those stories forever.  Oh...the stories she hoped to tell to her family’s new little ones, Olivia and Max Sinon, Eli and Graham Rowley and whatever generations that followed.

In death, Mary was reunited with her loving husband Pasquale, her parents Beniamino and Concetta (Visconti) Morra, sisters, Rose (Antonio) Ciocca, Carmela (Leondino) Ciocca, and Antonette (Rocco) Zambri and her deceased infant brothers.

She moved to Auburn on 2007. Mary thrived under the superb care of the aides and nurses at Finger Lakes Center for Living, and earlier Bluefield Manor. A Mass of Christian remembrance will be held at St. Mary’s Church 15 Clark St Auburn NY on February 25 @ 11:00am.  A celebration of her life will continue after the mass.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Church of the Holy Spirit, 151 South Main Street, Gloversville, NY.  12078.

Brew Funeral Home, 48 South Street, Auburn, NY is in charge of the arrangements.
