Mary T. Dooley

Mary T. Dooley, 91, of Lake Shore Dr., Auburn, died on Saturday May 6, 2017 in the serenity of her home, overlooking  Owasco Lake. Mary was born on April 1, 1926 in Brooklyn, NY, the daughter of the late Thomas and Jeanne Krolic Kowalski and is also predeceased by her sole sibling, Thomas Kowalski. Mary attended Adelphi College and was employed at Chase National Bank in NYC prior to her marriage, on September 3, 1949, to the late Dr. Alfred E. Dooley. The couple arrived in Auburn in 1953 where Dr. Dooley established his lifetime medical practice. Mary was an active volunteer at Auburn Memorial Hospital for over 50 years. She served as President of the Hospital Auxillary and was on the Hospital Board of Trustees. For 15 years, Mary enthusiastically worked as the buyer and decorator of Auburn Memorial Hospital’s gift shop. During this time, Mary’s artistic eye and hard work, along with other volunteers, helped generate a profitable income for the gift shop.

Mary was also a member and served as president of the following local community clubs: Auburn Garden Club, Auburn Reading Club and Fortnightly. She was a longtime member of the Owasco County Club where she enjoyed many friendships and pursued her passions for golf, tennis and bridge. Mary loved cooking, skiing, travel and the arts; interests she shared with her family and friends.

Mary is survived by her 5 children, sons, Dr. Mark C. Dooley and his wife Linda, of Richmond, VA; Lawrence M. Dooley and his wife Mary, of Rochester, NY; and Thomas A. Dooley and his wife Kim, of Columbus, Ohio; daughters, Jeanne M. Reynolds and husband William, of Washington, DC and Therese A. Baier and her husband Michael, of Auburn; 11 grandchildren, Kami Thacker and her husband Lawrence; Krista Hanesworth and her husband Steve; Lauren Welsh and her husband John; Mary Beth Kirby and her husband Matthew; Christopher and Megan Dooley; Thomas Dooley and his wife Jacqueline; Kevin and Claire Reynolds; Mitchell and Kyle Baier; and 9 great grandchildren Rylie, Hudson, Lilia, Cohen, Charlie, Logan, Sawyer, Hendrix and Noa.

Mary was a loving and dedicated daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. Her strong spirit and zest for life will be missed.

A Memorial service will be held at Sacred Heart Church on Saturday May 27th at 11am. The Dooley family will be receiving guests at the church beginning at 10am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to Hospice of the Fingerlakes, 1130 Corporate Drive, Auburn, NY 13021.
