Charles M. Lawrence, affectionately referred to by all as “Buddy” passed into glory on March 7, 2024 at the VA Hospital in Syracuse, NY. He was surrounded by his family. Born in Auburn to the late Harold and Ida (Blaisdell) Lawrence. Buddy was a 1958 graduate of Union Springs High School. He was employed by P&C Markets for 40 years as the managerial meat cutter for various branches in the Fingerlakes Region. He greatly enjoyed his retirement by spending time and serving with friends at the Walter T. Conley American Legion Post 1107 (member 58 years), hunting and fishing with his children and grandchildren. Buddy could often be found on or by Cayuga Lake catching some fish with a cold beer in his hand. If there was a gathering, Buddy would be in the middle of it playing his harmonica. We cannot forget his sweet demeanor, jolly and generous spirit that was willing to help anyone in need. His family is grateful to know that Bud believed in Jesus and will be one day reunited with him.
Bud served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Wallace L. LIND (DD 703) during the Cuban Operations of 1962. He was commended for his diligent application of professional skill, devotion to duty, service and contribution to the successful quarantine of Cuba by the U.S. Navy. He was honored as part of the vital defense forces protecting the country’s interest in the Caribbean area.
Bud is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Paula and their six children, Jodi Bretherton, Chris (Shelly) Lawrence, Mark (Renee) Lawrence, Nicole Sliwka, Hollie (Casey) Vanderstouw and Ryan (Tony) Shymkiw, 17 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Likewise he is survived by his siblings, John "Jack" Lawrence, William (Midgy) Lawrence , Patricia Dwello and sister-in-law Juanita Lawrence.
