Verna Bucknam

Verna Bucknam, age 84, of Leesburg, Florida, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 26, 2024, at the Hospice House in Williamsburg, Virginia. Born in 1939 in Yakima, Washington, she was the beloved daughter of the late Evelyn and Paul Noble.

Verna married David Bucknam, the love of her life, on January 7, 1966. They shared a wonderful life together, filled with joy and companionship, until David's passing in 2018. As a devoted Army spouse, Verna traveled extensively, providing unwavering support to her husband and their family. She took great pride in her role as a stay-at-home mom, and her nurturing spirit touched all who knew her.

An avid golfer, reader, and bingo enthusiast, Verna also enjoyed shopping and cherished her time with family and friends. Her retirement years were joyously spent in Pennbrooke Fairways, where she continued to engage in the community and activities she loved.

Verna is survived by her daughter, Stacy Bucknam-Groth, and her husband, Richard Groth, of Williamsburg, Virginia; her granddaughter, Kelsey Groth of Jacksonville, Florida; two grandsons, Steven and David Rhodes of Germany; nieces and nephew, Michael Bucknam, Mary Bucknam Edmonds and her husband Todd, Meg Bucknam; and cousins, Sharon Babst and Karen Franke of Manhattan, Kansas.

A memorial service to celebrate Verna's life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at St. Patrick’s Church in Aurora, NY. Interment will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Aurora. Brew Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Verna will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who brought smiles and warmth to everyone she met. Her legacy of kindness and care will live on through her family and the many lives she touched.
