Hazel A. Thony Hull

Hazel A. Thony Hull, 100, a resident of Jeffersonville, NY passed away August 11, 2019. She had been residing at the Commons of Auburn, NY. Loved by family and friends for her friendly gentle personality she will be greatly missed. Hazel was born at the Thony farmhouse on Swiss Hill, June 9, 1919. Her parents were Ruth Lawrence and Arnold Thony. In addition to her parents Hazel was predeceased by siblings: Herbert, Albert, Elma, Elsie; her twin and best friend Helen Hughson.

Hazel is survived by her four children and their spouses: Ronald (Nancy) Hull, Betty (Darryl) Jirinec, Walter (Rev Dr. Sylvia) Hull and Helena (Robert) Williams. She also is survived by nine grandchildren, twelve great grandsons and one great granddaughter.

During WWII she worked at Solar Manufacturing Corp and received an Army Navy Production Award. She was also employed at Swago Lake Camp and worked as a housekeeper for many years.

Hazel traveled to England and to Meirengen and Innertkirchen, Switzerland to the birthplace of her father’s family. A country woman, she lived many years in Galilee, PA and enjoyed living near friends and family in Tyler Hill, PA and Jeffersonville, NY. Preferring to be an active person all of her life, Hazel in youth had been in Girl Scouts, 4H and a Volunteer Citizen of Jeffersonville. An active member of the JEMS, she received a Proclamation for her volunteer work from Senator John J. Bonacic on her 93rd birthday. Having been a member of both Methodist and Presbyterian Churches, late in life she was a Jeffersonville Presbyterian Church Deacon and Women’s Club member. She received a NY State Certificate of Legislative Resolution upon the occasion of celebrating her 100 birthday by Senator Metzger.

We know our mother deeply enjoyed and appreciated the families of the Herberts, Hughsons, Thonys and her many friends for sharing her life.

A memorial service will be at 1PM on August 17, 2019 at Jirinec’s family church, Half Acre Union Church, 1768 W. Genesee Street Road, Auburn, NY with visitation to follow the service. Burial will be at Jeffersonville Presbyterian Church Cemetery at a later date.
