Jane Frances Worden, 92, of Auburn, passed away on Wednesday July 25, 2018 at the MM Ewing Continuing Care Center in Canandaigua, NY. She was the daughter of the late Zeb Bryant Lewis and Evelyn Butler Lewis and was pre-deceased by her husband, Paul Richard (Dick) Worden and by her brother, Clair Lewis.
Jane is survived by her:
Daughter Paula (Thomas) Davis of Canandaigua, grandsons Matthew (Marlana and their daughter Josie) Davis of Canandaigua and Michael Davis (fiancée Amanda Wheeler) of Springwater, step-children Michael Worden of Skaneateles, Kenneth (Sharon) Worden of Auburn, and Linda Worden (David Palochko) of Rye, New Hampshire, sister-in-law Rita Lewis of Auburn, niece Nancie (Doug) Reese of Auburn, nephew David (Cindy) Lewis of Rochester, three step-grandchildren and their families, and several other great nieces and nephew.
Jane graduated from East High School in 1943. From then on, she attended almost all of her high school reunions! In her younger years, Jane worked as a bookkeeper for the F. W. Woolworth Company in Auburn, often traveling out of state to help set up new stores. During this time, she was an avid bowler! Later in life, due to her love of reading, Jane gained employment at Waldenbooks at the Fingerlakes Mall, rising to Assistant Manager before retiring. In addition to reading, Jane enjoyed knitting, often knitting sweaters, afghans, and baby blankets for her family and for her daughter’s friends. In recent years, Jane knitted many scarves that were donated to St. Mary’s Church in Canandaigua as part of their annual charitable Christmas project. Jane and her husband enjoyed traveling to Atlantic City, Toronto, New Hampshire, Maine, and especially to Nashville, Tennessee! More recently, taking an occasional trip with her daughter and son-in-law to either the Turning Stone or del Lago Casino was a fun, and sometimes profitable, outing for her! She had “good luck” with the slot machines and the adventure always concluded with a nice lunch and a dessert “treat” for later! Jane regularly watched her favorite shows (The Golden Girls, Everyone Loves Raymond, Family Feud, Jeopardy, Judge Judy, and Law & Order: SVU), collected crystal, and went with her home health aides to Wegmans, Applebee’s, Hunter’s Diner, A.C. Moore, and Lynne and Linda’s Curling Corner for her weekly hair appointments. Jane loved spending time with her family and was very proud of her grandsons and their accomplishments! She was also quite fond of her grand daughter-in-law and future grand daughter-in-law and was truly enamored with her great-granddaughter, Josie.
Visitation will be from 1PM to 3PM on Tuesday July 31, 2018 at the Brew Funeral Home, 48 South Street, Auburn with a funeral service to follow at 3PM.
Burial will be at Fort Hill Cemetery, Auburn followed by dinner for family and friends at Springside Inn, Auburn.
Jane’s daughter would like to thank everyone that has provided her mother’s health care over the years, most recently at Auburn Community Hospital, Huntington Living Center, FF Thompson Hospital, and MM Ewing Continuing Care Center. In addition, thanks and appreciation are extended to Home Instead Senior Care for providing wonderful home health aides that enabled Jane to maintain her independence through April of this year.
