Jean Vanderloo Staehr, 88, of Springport, NY, passed away peacefully on Oct. 18 in her home, with her children by her side. She was born Sept. 30, 1930 in Auburn, NY, the daughter of the late Edward and Rose (Kosarek) Vanderloo.
Jean married August E. Staehr Jr. on April 4, 1959. The couple celebrated 52 years of marriage, before his death in 2011.
Jean was a graduate of Auburn Central High School, where she studied business. She was the office manager of Central New York Abstract Corporation, where she worked for almost twenty years. After leaving that position, she was bookkeeper for Staehr Brothers Farm for over 40 years. She was an active member of Good Shepard Catholic Community and a member of the Altar and Rosary Society. Jean was a founding member of “The Out to Lunch Bunch,” a social group that gathered over lunch to sample different restaurants each month in the region. She was an avid baker and made something new from scratch daily for her family. Jean and August were active members of the Springport Seniors and travelled on many in-state trips as well as out of state excursions. She loved reading and keeping in touch with family and friends by email and Facebook.
Jean is survived by her son, A. Edward Staehr and Rebecca Schuelke Staehr of Springport and her daughter, Diane Staehr Fenner and David Fenner of Fairfax, VA; her grandchildren, Zoe, Maya and Carson Fenner; and Greta and Rosa Staehr.
Jean was predeceased by her brother Dr. Thomas E. Vanderloo.
Calling hours will be from 2-5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 4 at Brew Funeral Home, 48 South St., Auburn. A funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 5 at St. Michael’s Church, 162 Cayuga St., Union Springs, NY. Interment will be at a later date at St. Michael’s Cemetery in Union Springs.
