Travis M. Robbins Obituary

Travis Murville Robbins of 5 Kenwood Road, formerly of Union Springs NY, left this world to return to his Lord on Thursday, May 17 2018

Travis was born on April 11 1935 in Cortland NY. He was the son of Hazel and Travis Robbins. As a young child, the family moved to Union Springs where he would spend the majority of his life, until 2004. He graduated from Union Springs High School in 1954. He married his wife, Marilyn Bradshaw in 1958, celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary in 2008 with a party held by their friends and family.

Travis apprenticed as a meat cutter, and worked as one for P&C supermarkets for 28 years, retiring in 1998. He served as a first meat cutter in this position,as well as filled in as a temporary manager when needed. Travis was skilled with his trade, and at his home had a extensive carving knife selection. He worked at various P&C’s across Central New York, his main base being in Auburn NY.

Travis was honorably discharged from the Army National Guard after six years of service. He was a cook in the service. This led to a skill of making a particularly good batch of Lentil soup on occasion. Travis as well worked as a Corrections officer in the New York State Department of Corrections for 9 years. This experience led to some life long friendships.

Travis never attended College. But he was an active learner in his own way. He read, and did attend BOCES and adult learning courses. He was a skilled handyman, knowing much regarding electrical, plumbing and carpentry. Travis and his wife Marilyn were small business owners, converting one of their former houses into apartments, and owning the Robbins Family Apartments for many years. Always looking for the right price, he carried for years a small book of amortization tables in his coat pocket.

Travis was well known in Union Springs. He was a regular at Dagget’s Coffee Shop. He would always share the counter with some the local’s, talking about different aspects of life and frequently sharing a good natured joke with one of the regulars, at their expense. For Travis, going downtown for a “brew” never meant going to a bar. It meant going to Daggets for a brewed coffee and some local talk.

Travis and Marilyn were avid campers and travelers, frequently going to different places across the United States and the British Isles. He as well enjoyed spending time with his four grandchildren.

As his later years would evolve, the sad affliction of Alzheimer's disease came upon Travis. Where he eventually he resided at The Commons on St.Anthony in Auburn NY. The family wishes to express their appreciation to the outstanding staff at this facility for their care and dignity they provided to Travis in his final journey.

Travis leaves his wife of 60 years, Marilyn, his children Michael (Mary) and Chantell Hotaling (Jim), grandchildren Brianna Schooley, Travis, Alexa, and Makenzie Robbins his sister Joan Morse of St.Augustine, Florida, and his former son in law Charles Schooley. He was predeceased by his brother Hollis, in 2017.
