Charlene “Chicky” May Chambers, age 81, of Auburn passed away unexpectedly at Auburn Community Hospital on July 21, 2024. She was born on July 17, 1943 in Syracuse, daughter of the late Joseph and Charlotte Chambers. Chicky was a loving mother, a devout catholic, a talented artist, enjoyed singing and admired the earth’s beauty, especially flowers. She shared her mother’s passion for roses. She had a great fondness for cats, uniquely all white cats. She absolutely enjoyed learning and as a result acquired three degrees in 1992 under her married name (Gay) at Cayuga County Community College. She graduated Magna Cum Laude with Associate degrees in Business Administration, Administrative Assistant and Liberal Arts. These degrees led to her career as a Program Administrator for AmeriCorps. She was especially proud of her ability to type 120 wpm and received first place at the 1991 NYS Leadership Conference. She received the Region III Merit Excellence Award for NYS Soil & Water Conservation in 1999. She also used her talent as an artist to be a Graphic Designer for Lakeside Printing. She served as Vice President and Treasurer to the NY Spelling Bee Association.
She was predeceased by her sisters Joan Liss, Kathleen Sullivan and Bruce Glave (first husband).
She is survived by her six children: Francis Glave (Emily), Suzette Rundle (William), Aaron Glave (Kathy), Michael Chambers (Kelly), Matthew Chambers (Elly), Charlotte Stallone; Grandchildren: Nathan (adopted), Benjamin, Adriana, Ryan, Jake, Logan and five great grandchildren.
