David Albert Brooks, 94, of Aurora, passed away Tuesday, October 17, 2023 at the Cayuga Medical Center in Ithaca.
David (Dave) was born on March 9, 1929 in Auburn the son of the late, Gerald D. and Thelma (Gowland) Brooks. He moved his family to Aurora in September 1958 to operate the Shell/Ashland Gas and Service Station. In 1969, he went to work for the Village of Aurora as the Waste Water Treatment Plant Operator/DPW until 1990.
David was devoted to the community with involvement in the following: In September 1958 joined the Aurora Volunteer Fire Department as a firefighter and EMT to the rank of Assistant Chief until 1992 where he took life membership. In 1995 he became a Fire Commissioner for the Aurora-Ledyard Fire District until 2018.
He served 33 yrs. as Village Clerk and 26 yrs. as Clerk for the Town of Ledyard. Trustee of the Aurora Presbyterian Church then Councilman for the United Ministry of Aurora.
He served 72 yrs. as a member of Scipio Lodge # 110 F. & AM holding many positions including Master. He served as Deputy Grand Lecturer for the Cayuga-Tompkins District and was a member of the Order of DeMolay.
He returned to work with the Cayuga County Board of Elections serving 21 yrs. as an Election Clerk.
He is survived by his daughters; Deborah Brooks and Donna Cooper; his grandson, Thomas Cooper and his brother-in-law, David “ Sam” (Mary) Foster plus many nieces and nephews.
David is preceded in death by his wife of 70 yrs., Doris on February 11, 2023: sisters, Lorion (Glen) Coons and Marion (Franklin) Volk.

There will be a “Final Call” at 11 AM at the Aurora Firehouse on Saturday, November 11, 2023. Followed by graveside services in Oak Glen Cemetery with the Masonic Brotherhood.
