Gloria “Debbie” VanPelt Torrey

Gloria “Debbie” VanPelt Torrey, 93 of Owasco, passed away on Thursday, October 16, 2025 at the Matthew House. Gloria was born on March 30, 1932 in New Jersey to the late Michael and Dorothy Duricsen Peapus. She was an educator for 42 years and finished her career in the Auburn School District as a Social Studies teacher. Gloria was an avid golfer at the Owasco Country Club. She had a great passion for bridge playing twice a week with fellow players and loved to read. Gloria was an active member of the Auburn Teachers Union and devoted New York Yankees fan.

She is survived by,

Nephew:          Craig Peapus and his wife Debbie

Nieces:                        Diane Peapus and Laura Ferguson

Grand Nephew:           Sean Peapus

Grand Niece: Tracy Pasciullo and her husband Edward

In addition to her parents, Gloria was predeceased by first husband Warren Palmer VanPelt, and second husband Donald Torrey, brother Frederick Peapus, sister Irene Peapus, nephews Mark and Keith Peapus.

There will be visitation from 11AM to 1PM on Saturday, October 25, 2025 at Brew Funeral Home, 48 South Street, Auburn with a service to follow at 1PM. Burial will be at Lakeview Cemetery in Fleming.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Matthew House, 43 Metcalf Drive, Auburn, NY 13021.
