Jack Frost, born October 23rd, 1942, and christened John Robert Frost, passed away on December 21st, 2023 at his home in Cayuga, NY. Jack was the son of John Henry Frost and Isabella Boyd Frost. Born and raised on Owasco Lake, Jack grew up an avid outdoorsman and renowned duck and goose hunter. He would continue to share his love of waterfowl at his home on Cayuga Lake with a good cup of coffee and an open door to many lifelong friends that came to visit at the kitchen table.
Jack retired after 25 years as a Corrections Officer from Auburn Prison. His work ethic and principles allowed him to be dedicated to raising his family. Jack was a man of principal and he appreciated people. His mission was to bring a smile to everyone he encountered, and he had the stories and the charm to make that work every time.
Jack was a master decoy and shorebird carver who mentored anyone who was also afflicted with decoy fever. While Jack’s carvings were in high demand, he was known to donate his carvings to causes that he believed in. Ducks Unlimited and local families in need of assistance could always count on him.
Jack is survived by his daughter Jacqueline E. Frost and granddaughter Michaela Frost, (Damario Andrello), grandson Brandon Sinicropi, and grandchildren Jonathan and Katie Frost. Jack was predeceased by his son William C. Frost. Robert Frost and Barbara Brandvold are also surviving.
In addition, we cannot forget “the sister he never wanted”, his dear friend and neighbor Sue Fairbairn. Sue and her family made sure Jack was able to live back on the water and in the heart of duck and goose country.
Jack passed on December 21st, 2023 at the dawn of the winter solstice. While he requested no calling hours, Jack’s long-told story of a “Viking Funeral” will become a Memorial Celebration to be held in the spring or the opening day of goose season. Jack supported many causes and any donations can be made to a charity of choice, the Cayuga Volunteer Fire Department or the local SPCA. Better yet, adopt a senior pet and say “Jack Frost sent me”.
The family would like to thank his “posse” of doctors and nurses, headed up by Dr. Heather MacAdam and the staff at Community Medical Center. Thank you for making time to listen to his stories and returning those smiles. This great man will be missed.
