John W. VanOrman

John W. VanOrman, age 72, of Black Street, Scipio Center, NY, passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, April 24.  He was born in Auburn to the late Percy and Rose VanOrman.   John was a 1969 graduate of Southern Cayuga Central School and Alfred State University in 1971.   He was employed by The NYS Department of Corrections for 33 years. 

He greatly enjoyed his retirement farming and raising Angus beef cows.  He cherished many moments camping with the Seneca Sams Camping Group throughout New York and Pennsylvania. 

John is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Dawn and their three sons: Christopher (Tammy), Aaron (Billie Jo) and Jay (Lisa) and his siblings Cheryl (Richard) Canino and Janet (Dr. Frank) Vassallo, sister-in-law Kathy (Duane) Mattes, brother-in-law Robert (Ellen) Cuatt, “adopted” daughter Phyllis Denise Mazzeo Ward and their loving families. 

Grandchildren: Zachary, Hayden, Taylor, Austin, Olivia, Haley, Paige, Zach, Cortney, Stephanie and Steven. Great grandchildren: AryBella, Elijah, Amelia, Jack, Declan, Reana, Wilson, Madden, Jayse, Eli and many loving nieces and nephews. 

Friends and family are invited to a “Celebration of Life” from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 4 at the Scipio Firehouse, 3550 NYS Rt. 34, Scipio Center, NY. 

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the King Ferry Food Pantry.org or the Scipio Volunteer Fire Company at the above address. 

John's legacy of kindness and love will forever be cherished by those who had the privilege of knowing him. May his memory live on in our hearts forever.
