Joyce E. Pethybridge, 69, went to be with her Lord and Savior on March 20,2025. Joyce was born to Harlow and Pauline (Cornelius) Pethybridge on April 23,1955 in Auburn, NY. She resided in Union Springs, NY all of her life, a majority of it on the family farm. Joyce worked in many stores as a retail specialist. Her last position until retirement was at the Union Springs Big M/Shurfine.
Joyce could be found at home sitting in her rocking chair reading or doing puzzle books. She also enjoyed coloring, playing solitaire, feeding and watching the birds, playing games with all the nieces and nephews and later the greats. Joyce never had children of her own but she loved and cared for everyone else's as if they were her own. Joyce was caregiver to her dad for many years and later opened her home to any of the family who needed a place to stay. Paulette moved in when she became an empty-nester and they continue to feed the cats who came over from the farm.
Joyce was an active member of Scipio Baptist Church in Union Springs, NY where she was baptized and volunteered doing children's and women's ministries.
Although in retirement, every other week Wednesday's were spent at the Cancer Center in Auburn, she enjoyed the visits in the vehicles with those who were kind and generous to provide rides to both Auburn and Syracuse. She also appreciated and enjoyed fun moments with all of the staff at the Cancer Center who cared for her.
Monday morning Bible Study became a highlight of her week as she got to renew old friendships and make new friends.
Joyce is survived by her sisters, Clara (Paul) Rothermich, and Paulette Woodruff, and her sister-in-law, Sandy Niver. She is also survived by her nephews and nieces, and (greats), Fred (Judy) Lytle (Brittany, Samantha, Hayleigh); Dawn (Milton) Cummins (Melissa, Dominic); Vickie Lytle (Jim Baker) (Nick, Brianna); Anne Weller (Jeremy Austin) (MaryAnn, Emily); John Lytle (Jennipher Strub) (Sara); Sarah (Joseph) Campagna (Jonas, Teddy, Clara); Mark Rothermich (Bradley); Amy Gridley (Makayla, Ethan, Jesse) and Beth Barnaba.
Joyce was predeceased by both her parents, her brothers, Earl (Sonny) Lytle and Robert Lytle, and sister, Nancy Halstead. She was also predeceased by her sister-in-law, Katherine Lytle and brothers -in-law, George Halstead and Donald Woodruff.
Services will be Sunday, March 30, 2025 at Scipio Baptist Church, Union Springs, NY. with calling hours from 2 to 4 pm with service at 4 pm. Dinner to follow.
