Leslie M. LaBaron, 79, affectionately known as “Les”, of Union Springs, passed away on July 8, 2024 at Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse, NY.
Born in Jamestown, NY on April 8, 1945 to the late Leslie and Lois (Price) LaBaron. He is also predeceased by his beloved wife, Andrea MacNicol. Les is survived by his brother Kevin LaBaron (Suzanne), son, Ryan LaBaron, daughter, Renee Lawrence (Mark), and stepson, Alex MacNicol. Grandchildren, Michaela Lawrence, Meagan Lawrence, Logan MacNicol, Breanna Roof, Seth MacNicol and great granddaughter, Carmella Morhiser- Lawrence.
Les grew up in Falconer, NY and after graduating high school he went on to the Oklahoma School of Aeronautics. Les tested as gifted at a young age and he used those gifts to accomplish many exciting things throughout his lifetime. He worked as an airplane mechanic, designed and built parts for nuclear submarines, fixed precision metal equipment, and owned several businesses, including General Marine Products which subcontracted to the government, as well as a mini-mart and a bait & tackle shop in Union Springs. He retired as a machinist in the aeronautics division from Perkin Elmer. Among his many achievements, his favorites were designing for MacKenzie-Childs in the 90’s and racing stock cars in his youth.
Les was a loving father who enjoyed spending time with his family. He was kind to all animals, often taking in strays and nursing them back to health. Those who knew him considered him a “jack of all trades''. He loved to build houses, fix cars, boats, and design just about anything, having built his first riding lawnmower at the age of 9. Racing was his passion, and he cherished traveling with his late wife, Andrea.
He will be remembered for his ingenuity, kindness, and the adventurous spirit that marked his life.
Friends and family are invited to attend a Celebration of Life any time from 2:00 - 5:00 on Thursday, July 18, at The Apple Station Winery, 5279 Cross Road, Cayuga, NY. Private services will be held at a later date.
