Margery A. Near

Margery A. Near, 93, of Elbridge passed away peacefully at home on May 1, 2025. Affectionately known as Aunt Mousie, she was born April 17, 1932 in Auburn, the daughter of late Harold and Gladys (Beck) Pinckney. Margery was a graduate of Central High and was employed 48 years at Auburn Correctional, retiring in 1987. She previously served on the board of directors at Auburn Federal Credit Union. Known for her “spicy” wit, generosity and knowledge of all things Auburn.

Margery and her husband, Wilson J. Near Jr., spent winters in Naples, FL until his passing in 1998. Summers were spent on Cape Cod with her daughter and children. You could find her everyday having lunch at Kostas.

Besides being predeceased by her husband and parents, she was predeceased by sisters Shirley (Richard) Ganey and Jean Pinckney, brothers Donald Pinckney and Robert Pinckney, special nephew Terry Ganey, in laws Doris (John) Bierer and James B. (Susan) Near.   

She is survived by daughter Susan (Wesley) Bird of Elbridge and Naples FL, granddaughter Elizabeth (Mathew) Santos of Andover, MA and York, ME, great grandchildren Wilson James and Blake Elizabeth Santos. Also, survived by special nieces, Peggy Hicks and Suki Near, special nephew David Ganey.

The family would like to thank special neighbors, the Benninks and McLaughlins for their love and friendship. Special thanks to Mary and Terry Clifford, Linda Lynch, Alice Hoatland, Marcia Mizro and her girls at Kostas for loving her.

In honor of Marge, have a Moscato, Nutty Irishman or a Parliament.

Private graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family.
