Nancy A. Sloan, 77, was born January 27th, 1947 in Yonkers, NY and passed away peacefully on August 15th, 2024 at home surrounded by family. Nancy was predeceased by her husband Charles B. Sloan Jr., her sister-in-law Susan N. Sloan, and her daughter-in-law Shavonne R. Sloan. Nancy and Charles raised their two children, Christopher and Stephanie, in Skaneateles and lived many years in Jupiter, Florida. After Charlie passed, Nancy and her children returned to Auburn to be closer to family. A natural caregiver, Nancy worked many years at Unity House as a resident counselor. When not working or spending time with her five grandchildren, Nancy meticulously cared for her beautiful gardens and created timeless hand-braided rugs, hand-made dolls, wall tapestries and table runners. Nancy taught and inspired others in all the home arts of sewing, crafting, cooking, baking, gardening, and dancing in the kitchen. She instilled creativity and expression into each and every “sleepover at grandma’s”. Each year, Nancy’s favorite thing was to play hostess in creating a beautiful Christmas Eve celebration for all extended family. Nancy will most be remembered for her love of talking on the phone for hours, Lifetime and Hallmark movies, Barefoot Contessa, HGTV, Barry Manilow, and Mamma Mia. More recently, her grandchildren introduced her to Facebook, Youtube, and podcasts from which she learned and shared her interests – especially hilarious cat videos. She was an opinionated spitfire of a woman who cared deeply for her friends and family. Nancy is survived by her brothers, Kevin Hickey (Lois) and Brian Hickey, and sister Kate Ryan; her son Christopher Sloan (Nicole) and daughter Stephanie Butler; grandchildren Gillian Sloan, Alyssa Butler, Kira Sloan, Hannah Butler, David Butler; nieces Jeanne Luker (Patrick), Caitrin Colombo (James), Rhianna Eberle (Andrew), and nephew Garrett Hickey; five grandnieces and nephews; and her beloved cat Baby. In lieu of flowers, Donations in Nancy’s memory may be made to Unity House of Cayuga County and the Finger Lakes SPCA of Central New York. Services will be held on Tuesday, August 20th, 2024 at 11am at Lakeview Cemetery, 6217 NY-38, Auburn, NY 13021. Arrangements are by Brew Funeral Home in Auburn.
