Richard "Dick" Mark Byrne, 77, of Auburn, passed away on Thursday, March 30th, 2023, after a short but steady health decline. Dick was born in Syracuse, NY on September 11, 1945, the only child to the late Richard and Olive Byrne.
Dick received his Bachelors degree from the University of Rochester, a Medical Degree from SUNY Upstate Medical University, specializing in Orthopedics. Dick started his career in Seattle, WA where he worked for the VA hospital. After a few years, he worked in a number of practices at various locations throughout the country. He settled in Nebraska for ten years where he met his wife. Dick and his family returned to CNY after accepting a position at Auburn Hospital in 1995 where he worked until retirement.
Dick was passionate about many hobbies throughout his lifetime, including photography, woodworking, and antiquing. He was also interested in history, reading, and meeting new people. Dick was a fountain of knowledge and never lost his curiosity for learning. In his later years he enjoyed spending time with his dogs.
Dick is survived by his wife Catherine and daughter Megan.
Calling hours are scheduled from 4-6pm Wednesday, April 5th and Funeral Service at 11am Thursday, April 6th. Both will be held at Brew Funeral Home, 48 South Street in Auburn.
