Robert J. Gillett, 89, of Auburn, passed away on Sunday, November 10, 2024 at Auburn Community Hospital. Robert was born on October 12, 1935 in Auburn, NY to the late Jospeh and Cora Byam Gillett. He attended the Auburn City Schools and Robert later joined the U.S. Navy and served during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He retired from the U.S. Navy on August 1, 1972 after serving over 20 years of honorable service.
He was also a member of several organizations. The U.S.N. retired Masonic Lodge of Port Byron, VFW of Auburn, DAV life member, American Legion, Fleet Reserve, AARP, NRA, Montezuma Seniors, United Steel Workers Union and was a past Montezuma Town Councilman.
He is survived by his daughter Yvonne and her husband Richard Wild of Auburn, son Robert and his wife Cheryl Gillett Jr. of Montezuma. Three grandchildren Richard A. Wild Jr. and his wife Sara of Auburn, Jennfier A. Pignato and her husband Matthew of Rochester, and Eric R. Gillett and his wife Sarah of Knightdale, NC. Six great grandchildren Adriana, Evan and Ashton Wild and Lillian and Logan Gillett and Daniella Piersanti. Several Nieces and Nephews.
In addition to his parents Robert was predeceased by his loving wife Rita, and several brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be from 11AM to 1PM, on Friday, November 15 ,2024 at Brew Funeral Home, 48 South Street, Auburn with a service to follow 1PM. Burial will be at St. Jospeh’s Cemetery with military honors.
