Robert T. "Savoy" Byron Obituary

Robert Byron, a friend to everyone who knew him, passed away suddenly on January 31 at his home in Auburn, NY.  Bob, called “Savoy” by his closest friends, was 74 years old and lived a life of adventure.  Born in Niskayuna, NY, Bob was an avid golfer, playing for his high school golf team.  From there he attended Dean College and graduated from the University of New Hampshire in the class of 1972.  At the suggestion of his roommate, Bob relocated to Central New York to work with a musical group in sound production. Bob was wise beyond years and contributed greatly to the success and good humor of the group, known as the Dean Brothers Band. He moved on to Pittsburgh, PA to work as senior Industrial Engineer at Glenshaw Glass Company and monitored the company’s manufacturing operations around the US for ten years before moving to Baltimore to work as Director of Industrial Engineering for the Carr Lowery Glass Company.  After four years at Carr Lowery, Bob was hired by Patience Brewster, Inc. in Skaneateles as its Operations Manager and played a key role in growing the startup company. He then resumed his career as an independent business consultant for several companies including Waterloo Container in Waterloo, NY and Marietta Corporation in Cortland.  In his retirement Bob was on the board of the Auburn Industrial Development Agency for several years. He was an avid reader and a lively supporter of Auburn Public Theater.  Bob is predeceased by his parents and sister.  In lieu of services, a private gathering will be held at a later date to celebrate his life and his amazing view of the world.  Friends and loved ones can make a donation in Bob’s honor to the Finger Lakes SPCA in Auburn or to Auburn Public Theater.
