Sheila Dresser Forsythe Obituary

Sheila Dresser Forsythe, 81, of Fleming, passed away Thursday, January 15, 2026 at Auburn Community Hospital after an extended illness. Born in Greenfield, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of Lawrence and Mary Berry Dresser. She was a graduate of Terry Parker High School in Jacksonville Florida, Corning Community College and SUNY Brockport. She was a certified teacher for grades K through 9 and taught third grade for Palmac School System and third grade for Saint Hyacinths School in Auburn. She also taught an adult GED program at the Cayuga County Jail for several years. Mrs. Forsythe was also a former member of Sts. Peter and John Episcopal church.

She was predeceased by her brother William G. Dresser, father Lawrence Dresser, mother Mary I. Neville, and her aunt Margaret Spear. Surviving her are her husband James H. Forsythe III; two children, Jennifer Poole and her husband Travis Poole of Auburn, James H. Forsythe IV and his wife Jessica Forsythe of Fleming; three grandchildren Tyler Forsythe of Fleming, Torrin Poole of Auburn and Taden Poole of Auburn.

Visiting hours will be 4pm to 7pm, Thursday January 22, 2026 at Brew Funeral home, 48 South St., Auburn, NY. Friends are invited to attend a service on Friday, January 23, 2026 at 1:00 PM at Brew Funeral Home. A spring burial will be at Fleming Rural Cemetery at a date to be determined.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Fleming Fire Departments No. 1 and No. 2 in memoriam of Sheila.
