Thomas J. "Mert" DeBois

Thomas J. "Mert" DeBois, 70, of Auburn, NY, passed away on Friday February 28, 2025. Born on February 11, 1955, Mert was a proud father, loving grandad/great-grandad, and loyal friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Mert was a United States Marine veteran and a man of great character and devotion. He was a single father to his five children: Jim (Bobbie) DeBois, Jenifer Santiago, Jace (Kelly) DeBois, Travis (Tara) DeBois, and Hope Weiko. His legacy lives on through his 13 beloved grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren: Brent, Lindsey, Brooke, Brianna, Addison, Allison, Lauren, Lucas, Ashton, Camden, Mya, Quinn, Ronin, Kaiden & Kalia. Mert truly loved his family dearly and he found great joy in the time spent with them.

He was predeceased by his wife Rita, sister, Mary Rucker, parents, Florence and James DeBois.

He was a dedicated New York Giants fan, a NASCAR enthusiast, and enjoyed traveling in recent years with his children and grandchildren. Mert also enjoyed spending time with his close friends, often enjoying lunches, coffee, backyard BBQ’s and going on-bike rides.

Mert was a simple man who was always kind and lived life the way he wanted to. Every day was a blessing to him. 

Mert leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories.

Visitation will be from 4PM to 7PM on Thursday, March 6, at Brew Funeral Home, 48 South Street, Auburn. Funeral service will be ta 10AM on Friday, March 7 at Brew Funeral Home. Burial will be at Fort Hill Cemetery.
